Story & Setting

Key characters from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt storyline
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt takes place in a medieval fantasy world inspired by Slavic mythology. The game is set in the Northern Kingdoms, a region caught in a war between the Nilfgaardian Empire and the northern realms.
Main Narrative
The story follows Geralt of Rivia, a Witcher – a monster hunter with supernatural abilities, who is searching for his adopted daughter, Ciri. Ciri is a Child of the Elder Blood, possessing immense power that makes her the target of the Wild Hunt, a group of spectral warriors from another dimension.
As Geralt travels through the war-torn kingdoms, he encounters old friends and new allies, including Yennefer of Vengerberg, a powerful sorceress and Geralt's on-again-off-again lover, and Triss Merigold, another sorceress who has aided Geralt in the past.
The narrative explores themes of family, destiny, morality, and the consequences of war. Players' choices throughout the game affect not only the fates of individual characters but also the outcome of the main story, with multiple endings possible based on key decisions.
Expansions
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features two major expansions that add significant content to the game:
- Hearts of Stone – Introduces a new story involving a mysterious man known as Gaunter O'Dimm, featuring challenging quests and new areas to explore.
- Blood and Wine – Takes Geralt to the southern kingdom of Toussaint, a peaceful realm known for its wine and chivalric tournaments, where he uncovers a dark secret.
Both expansions have been praised for their high quality, with some critics considering them to be as good as or better than many full-priced games. They significantly extend the gameplay experience, adding dozens of hours of content to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
